Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding how the ScentBubble engine works.

How does the "Engine Match" math work?

The synergy engine grades your fragrance stack on a scale from 0 to 100 based on how well the fragrances mathematically complement each other, avoiding "olfactory mud."

  • The Baseline: Every stack starts at an average score of 50.
  • The Glue (Base Anchors): If the engine finds an overlapping "Fixative Anchor" (like Ambroxan, Vanilla, Cedar, or Musk) across the bottles, it adds +15 points for each overlap because these notes glue the stack together and extend its life.
  • Note Overlaps: If it finds a shared regular base note, it adds +8 points.
  • Classic Complements: If it detects a classic pairing (like Vanilla + Woods), it adds a +10 point bonus.
  • The Mud Penalty (Overcrowding): 2 bottles is considered the purest layer. 3 bottles incurs a slight complexity tax (-5 points). Once you hit 4 or more bottles, it actively subtracts 15 points per extra bottle to penalize "olfactory noise."

What is an "Aura Profile"?

Instead of calling your combinations a clinical "Journal Entry", the Aura Profile is a stylistic label for the persona or "vibe" of the fragrance stack you're wearing. In the fragrance community, it's not just about what you smell like, it's about the feeling or memory the scent invokes.

What are "Fixative Anchors"?

Fixatives are heavy base notes (like Ambroxan, Iso E Super, Vanilla, Musk, and woods) that have large, slow-evaporating molecules. They act as an anchor, physically holding onto lighter top notes (like citrus or florals) and slowing down their evaporation rate, making your stack last much longer on the skin.

Why isn't my collection showing up for layering?

Currently, the engine uses a curated library of fallback fragrances to demonstrate the math. As we transition the app from its prototype phase to production, your custom personal collection logs will be fully wired into the synergy engine.
